Getting Started
Free Fire is a mobile battle royale where 50 players drop onto an island, loot weapons and gear, and fight until one player or team remains. Matches last about 15 minutes, making it one of the fastest battle royales on mobile.
Download and Account Setup
- Download Free Fire from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store (around 700MB)
- Create an account using Google, Facebook, or Apple ID — linking an account protects your progress
- Choose a starter character — all default characters have similar base stats, so pick whoever you like
- Complete the tutorial match against bots to learn basic controls
Understanding the HUD
Your screen has several critical elements:
- Minimap (top-left): Shows the safe zone circle, your position, and teammates
- HP bar (top-center): Your health and EP (energy points that slowly convert to HP)
- Weapon slots (bottom-right): You can carry two primary weapons plus grenades and melee
- Backpack button: Manage your inventory, drop items, and swap attachments
- Fire button: The large button on the right side — tap to shoot
Your First Match Walkthrough
Step 1: Pick a Landing Spot
When the plane flies over the map, tap the map to set a marker. For your first few games, land away from the flight path at a quieter location. Good beginner spots on Bermuda include Sentosa, Cape Town, or any named location far from the plane line.
Step 2: Loot Efficiently
Once you land, grab items in this priority order:
- Any weapon — even a pistol is better than fists
- Vest and helmet — these absorb damage before your HP
- Medkits and mushrooms — mushrooms give EP, which slowly heals you
- Gloo walls — the most important utility in Free Fire
- Ammo and attachments — match these to your weapon types
Step 3: Manage the Safe Zone
The play area shrinks every few minutes. The white circle on your minimap shows the current safe zone, and the blue circle shows where it will shrink next. Being outside the zone deals damage that increases each phase. Start moving early — do not wait until the zone catches you.
Step 4: Fight Smart
- Use cover constantly — hide behind walls, trees, rocks, and gloo walls
- Crouch while shooting to reduce your weapon recoil
- Aim for the head — headshots deal double damage
- Do not chase kills early on — survival earns more ranked points than eliminations
Basic Controls Tips
- Auto-pickup is enabled by default and grabs nearby loot automatically
- Prone (lie flat) makes you harder to spot in grass but limits mobility
- Sprint is always on by default — your character runs automatically
- Switch weapons by tapping the weapon icon, not scrolling
Winning Tips for New Players
- Play Clash Squad mode to practice combat in shorter rounds
- Stick to one or two weapon types (AR + SMG is a great starter combo) and learn their recoil patterns
- Use headphones — footstep audio tells you where enemies are approaching from
- Watch the kill feed (top-right) to track how many players remain
- Land at the same spot repeatedly until you memorize the loot layout
- Do not spend diamonds until you understand what you actually need
The most important thing is to keep playing. Your first few matches will be against mostly bots, giving you time to learn before facing experienced players.
